In May we were pleased to welcome the Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, Chris Askew, to our meeting.

Chris presented Brenda Gutteridge, a long standing member of Diabetes UK, with the John Macleod medal for living with diabetes for seventy years.

Chris sent an email after the event:

"Many thanks for such a warm welcome this evening and great to see such a strongly supported Group, thanks to your hard work.

I hope the presentation was pitched ok and certainly, it was great to have the chance to talk with people afterwards.

Thank you again and good luck with your ongoing great work in support of Diabetes UK; we’re very grateful!"

Islet Research Islet Research

Our Group has supported the Islet Research Laboratory in Worcester for several years.

We recently gave a further donation of £4,500.

Islets, which are groups of cells found in the pancreas, sense sugar in blood and release insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes is caused when the body mistakenly destroys these cells, meaning insulin is no longer produced.

By monitoring islet cells closely, the Research Laboratory is hoping to find new ways to treat diabetes patients in the future.
